Let’s face it, we humans naturally resist change. And that represents a major, missed opportunity. We often skip the small, immediate actions because we aren’t focused on the longer-term. In the same way, specific, minor, focused actions, executed frequently, can have large impacts on your revenue growth plan over time. Think of how it would be if you were restricted to only major turns of the wheel. Imagine driving along a straight road, with your hands gently placed on the wheel those tiny motions you instinctively make to keep the car in the middle of a lane, or to negotiate a very gentle curve, are just like trim tabs. Without it, the helmsman or pilot would need to make frequent, large, sudden course corrections requiring extra energy and often jarring all the passengers and crew. By applying a minor touch to the trim tab, a very significant impact on the craft’s direction can be implemented with very little effort. So, what is trim tabbing? In marine and aeronautical design, a trim tab is a small surface attached to the trailing edge of a larger surface, such as the keel of a ship or the rudder of a plane. Once a strategic plan has been launched, it will not self-correct! Real-world influences will demand a continual effort to stay on track by monitoring interim results and regulating activities accordingly.Īpplying the concept of “trim tabbing” to the revenue growth process allows you to use small efforts to have a large impact on how well, how quickly – or even whether – your plan’s goals are reached. Trim tabs can be manually or electrically controlled (or both), depending upon the aircraft installation.Keep your annual revenue plan on course after setting it in motion The position of an adjustable trim tab can be changed in flight, using cockpit controls, to counter any variation in control loading resulting from changes in airspeed, centre of gravity, aircraft configuration or due to an engine failure. Adjustable trim is virtually always installed to adjust control loading associated with the pitch axis and may also be used to trim for yaw or roll. A fixed tab is ground adjusted (bent) to the desired position to overcome any unwanted roll or yaw tendencies of the aircraft. This occurs because the distance from the control surface hinge at which the trim tab is mounted provides sufficient moment or force to move the larger surface.įixed trim tabs are most often encountered on the rudder or aileron of a light, single engine aircraft. Trim tabs can be either flight adjustable or fixed.īy adjusting the angle of the trim tab relative to the larger control surface, the neutral position of the control surface is changed. The trim tab is used to "trim", or counteract the aerodynamic force on, the control surface and thus stabilise the aircraft in the axis of rotation associated with the primary control. Trim tabs are small, secondary flight control surfaces that are attached to the trailing edge of a larger, primary control surface such as an elevator or rudder.
